WhatsApp Reminders

WhatsApp ‘Reminders’ is a tool that allows you to receive and create alert inside WhatsApp. To set this up, you download and set up the popular app, Any.do. You then link this app to WhatsApp and get instant easy reminders. So, for instance, you can send a message like, ‘remind me to buy groceries’ and it’ll do that. The only caveat is that it’s not free and you need Any.do premium subscription to use it. To use the feature, make sure you have an Any.do a Premium account.

Then, head to

Settings > Integrations > WhatsApp. Add your phone number and tap send. You can then enter the 6-digit code you received via text and tap confirm. Lastly, turn your reminders on and start messaging the bot to create new tasks.

WhatsApp Group Invites

Another feature is the Group Invites feature where you can block people from adding you to groups without your permission. Earlier it was possible for anyone who has got your number to add you to groups but now with the new feature, you get a ‘My Contacts Except’ option for groups. Usually, WhatsApp users can choose between ‘Everyone’, ‘My Contacts’ and ‘Nobody’ options for joining groups on the app. However, as a part of the update, users will have to manually select people that they wish to block from adding them to groups. All the blacklisted users would have to send a group invite instead. To use the feature, go to settings, select Account > Privacy and then Groups. By default, you’ll be set to everyone which you can then change in the account settings. Also, the feature would roll out for both Android and iOS users.

WhatsApp Call Waiting Update

Third feature is the call waiting feature which brings a new call-waiting function for voice calls for Android users. Earlier when the users would receive a second call on WhatsApp, it would automatically be rejected with a message saying, “Person is on another call”. This is no longer the case as WhatsApp users will now get a drop-down menu where they’d be able to choose between the ongoing call, rejecting an incoming call, or selecting the incoming call. The new UI includes a green ‘End & Accept button’ to accept the second incoming call and a ‘decline’ button to reject the call. However, keep in mind that you can’t keep a call on hold or merge the two calls, you can only either accept the new call or reject it
